Why Only an Unpredictable Life Is Worth Living
Stop trying to know the future and start creating it
Most of us want certainty in life.
When my temperature hit 103 degrees, all I wanted to know was when this fever came down. Then I wanted to know if I had won the Writing Competition or not. After the headaches started, I wanted to know if I would ever be able to write again.
We all ache to know the future at times.
But the ability to predict accurately comes at a cost. Imagine you are watching a recording of an NBA game. You know who will win and how. Or suppose you were rereading a novel or rewatching GOT. Can it be as exciting as a live match or a new show?
You can enjoy rewatching the game or the movie, but it won’t be as exciting as the first time.
“If life were predictable it would cease to be life, and be without flavor.” ~Eleanor Roosevelt
Whoever, a conscious entity, or whatever, a combination of universal laws, designed life — or did not design it — likes it this way. If all alive things have to face unpredictability then it is a characteristic of life itself. Whether we like it or not, we have to accept life as inherently unpredictable.
